how to become a teacher

We would love to have you join our website as a teacher. You need be at least 18 years old, speak the language you want to teach natively or at a C1/C2 level and enjoy interacting with people. We welcome both professional and informal teachers. The difference between these two types of teachers is explained in more detail on this page. If you don't see the language you want to teach on the Find a Teacher page, you are still welcome to apply. If you can't find the language you want to teach in the list of languages on the application pages, don't hesitate to contact us. To become one of our valued teachers, please follow the following steps.

Join Us

First register a student account at this link. If you're approved as a teacher, your account will be automatically upgraded to a student/teacher account and you will be able to use it for both purposes.

Profile Picture

Upload a photograph of yourself on this page. Please read the FAQ - Profile Picture, which includes rules and tips for taking a good photograph.

Presentation Video

Prepare a video in which you present yourself. You need to have this video ready during the signup process. Please read the FAQ - Presentation Video, which includes rules and tips for making a video. Make sure you speak at least five full sentences of every language you want to teach in your presentation video or your application will be rejected.

New Teacher Application

Submit your New Teacher Application. The application will ask you for your video, which language(s) you want to teach and some information that we need to get you going as a teacher.

Application Review

We will review your application as soon as we are able to. We might contact you if we find a problem with either your photograph or your video and will give you the opportunity to provide us with new ones. We also might contact you with more questions or invite you to an interview, to be able to assess whether you would be a good fit to our website. If you are approved as a teacher, we'll let you know.
