My preferred method of teaching is divided into two parts, theory and practice. Let me give you an example, imagine that one day we study the imperfect past (pretérito imperfecto) tense; Not only the formulas are enough, you need to use and practice them too, then, we will talk about any expirience (like your childhood) so that we practice what we have learned... of course, this depends on each student.
