Hi. Are you good at math? Then you should probably learn some Spanish mathematical terms!

Uno más uno, igual a dos (1 + 1 = 2)

Cien más catorce es igual a ciento catorce (100 + 14 = 114)

Ocho más dos más nueve más uno, veinte (8 + 2 + 9 + 1 = 20)

Cincuenta y tres más cuatro es cincuenta y siete (53 + 4 = 57)

Do you notice differences between each operation? The only differences are the ways to say "equal". Read them again.

Cinco menos dos, igual a tres (5 – 2 = 3)

Mil cuarenta y nueve menos mil es igual a cuarenta y nueve (1049 – 1000 = 49)

Setecientos menos uno es seiscientos noventa y nueve (700 – 1 = 699)

Diez menos cinco, cinco (10 – 5 = 5)

Here, the rules are the same as addition.

Uno entre dos, igual a cero coma cinco (1 ÷ 2 = 0,5)

Trece entre trece es uno (13 ÷ 13 = 1)

Diez entre cinco es igual a dos (10 ÷ 5 = 2)

Veinte entre cuatro, cinco (20 ÷ 4 = 5)

Also, you can change “entre” to “dividido por” or “dividido entre”. For instance: cuatro dividido entre dos es dos.

Quince por cero, igual a cero (15 x 0 = 0)

Dos por uno es igual a dos (2 x 1 = 2)

Veinticinco por cien es dos mil quinientos (25 x 100 = 2500)

Dieciséis por cuatro, sesenta y cuatro (16 x 4 = 64)

Here, you can add “multiplicado” before “por”. For instance: “tres multiplicado por tres, nueve”.

There are several interesting things about numbers in addition to the above. Theorems? Do you know one of the most popular ones, the Pythagorean theorem? Or the definition of pi?

Everyone of us knows this theorem:

En todo triángulo rectángulo, el cuadrado de la hipotenusa es igual a la suma de los cuadrados de los catetos

or just: h²=c1²+c2²

Let’s see. Cuadrado? Hipotenusa? Catetos?

Cuadrado = quarter = x²

Hipotenusa = the longest side of a right triangle (triángulo rectángulo)

Cateto = side (this one is just for right triangles)

This is one of the most important mathematical constants and means:

La relación entre la longitud (perímetro) de cualquier circunferencia y su diámetro

or just: π=P/D

Let’s see. Relación? Longitud de una circunferencia? Diámetro?

Relación = ratio

Longitud de una circunferencia = perímetro = circumference

Diámetro = diameter

Por cierto, no importa el tamaño de la circunferencia, esta relación siempre se cumple. Oh! Sorry… btw, you can translate this! :)
